Leaderboard Integration Services for Games, Apps, and Platforms

Leaderboards aggregate results across multiple tournaments into a leaderboard that ranks players based on their cumulative performance.

What are leaderboards?

Leaderboards are a competitive format that – unlike ladders, which rank players based on their in-game performances – ranks players based on their performance in tournaments. The rankings are displayed on a leaderboard that aggregates results from multiple tournaments, creating a cumulative list of top performers over time. This creates an ongoing competition where players can strive to improve and climb the leaderboard to claim the top spot. As such, leaderboards provide a way to engage players in a long-lasting and exciting competition.

Frequently asked questions

While both ladders and leaderboards on Challengermode are competitive formats that rank players in an ordered list, there is a key difference:

  • Ladders are competitions where players climb the ranks based on their in-game performance during a specific time period, such as a week or a month. The ladder is then reset, and players can compete again by playing regular game modes in-game.
  • Leaderboards, on the other hand, aggregate results from tournaments on Challengermode over time and create a ranking that considers the performance in those tournaments. Players climb the leaderboard by competing in more tournaments and placing as high as possible.

In summary, ladders are based on a player’s in-game performance, while leaderboards are based on a player’s performance in tournaments on Challengermode.

  • Seasonal leaderboards for tournament performances – Longer-lasting competitions for increased engagement at lower costs (due to not having to fund each individual tournament)
  • Qualifiers with large groups of participants -> can advance top X into a playoffs tournament
  • Asynchronous competitions: players don’t need to compete directly against each other or at the same time in order to climb the leaderboard
